View all badgesThis Badge is designed to establish your knowledge of the fundamental principles of digital learning and that you can apply these principles to real world examples to evaluate the effectiveness of online/digital designs to either support or enhance learning. The badge also requires reflection on how you might will apply the positive elements in the designs you evaluate in your own work and, highlight the elements you’d avoid applying to your designs.
The module materials and activities will introduce you to the underlying principles of digital learning design: the psychology of learning; the cognitive processes and principles underlying the learning process; media mix in digital learning; an adaptable framework for evaluating and/or building digital learning experiences etc.
This is the first badge in our Digital Learning Design programme.
To earn this badge, you must:
- complete our free Fundamentals of Digital Learning Design module (7 hours minimum)
- evaluate three separate digital learning resources using the information in Section 4 of the module and make sure you address the eight criterion we suggest as a framework for evaluation of digital learning (3 hours minimum)
- write up your evaluation of the three digital learning resources, making sure you include the eight criterion, hyperlinks to the resources if possible and identify strengths, weaknesses and improvements for each (750 words minimum)
- tell us about how you intend to use what you learned in this module and how this might improve your practice going forward (250 words minimum).
Applications which do not adequately demonstrate these criteria will be returned.
You must hold the Getting Started, Writing Evidence and Moving Learning Online open badges before you can apply for this one.
You will need to provide a reflective account of at least 1,000 words for this badge covering the activities and questions asked in the criteria above. Make sure you clearly indicate which question you are responding to in each part of your evidence submission.

Please remember, the evidence you provide will be viewable by anyone who you show your badge to. Do not include confidential or private information within your statement.
