Terms of Use
Updated: 18 December 2025
Effective date: 24 June 2025
Introduction
Welcome to the Scottish Social Services Council (“SSSC”).
These Terms of Use apply to your access and use of the SSSC’s MyLearning Website, located at mylearning.scot (the “Website”), as well as our app (“MyLearning App”), and (collectively “MyLearning Services”).
By accessing MyLearning Services, you agree to these terms. You must not continue to use MyLearning Services if you do not agree to these terms.
- Who can use MyLearning Services?
- You may use the MyLearning Services only if you follow these terms and all applicable laws.
- Using MyLearning Services may require downloading software to your device. We may update this software automatically, with these terms applying to all updates.
- When you create your MyLearning account, you must provide us with accurate and complete information.
- Account Creation and Management
2.1 Single account policy
You may only have one account on the MyLearning platform unless given explicit permission by us to have more than one account. We reserve the right to remove accounts where an individual has more than one. You may not create multiple accounts unless expressly permitted by us. Any violation of this policy may result in the suspension or termination of all associated accounts.
2.2 Account security
You are responsible for remembering and keeping secure your login credentials (email address and password) for the MyLearning Services. You must not share this with others. Make sure you logout when using shared computers as you will be liable for any actions performed on your account. We cannot retrieve accounts where you no longer have access to the email address associated with it – please use a personal email account and not a work/college/university account as you may lose access to these when your course finishes or you move to another job.
2.3 Account Activity
To maintain the integrity of our service and ensure your account remains active, you must login and use the MyLearning platform regularly. Accounts that do not log in regularly may be closed. Regular engagement is necessary to ensure your account remains active. Likewise, if an account is breaching these terms, we reserve the right to ban and remove the account.
You can also close your own account at any time by visiting the ‘Edit your account’ page on the MyLearning website, or you can manually close your account in the MyLearning app’s ‘Settings’ page.
- Privacy
Our Privacy Notice for MyLearning Services provides details of our data processing in relation to MyLearning Services.
For further information on the SSSC’s general data processing, please see our general Data Protection and Privacy Notice.
- Cookies
We employ the use of cookies. By accessing the MyLearning Services, you agree to use cookies in accordance with the SSSC’s Privacy Notice.
- User Content
5.1 Posting User Content
MyLearning Services let you post content such as photos, videos, comments and links. “User Content” refers to anything you post or make available on the platform. You retain all rights in, and are solely responsible for, your User Content. All User Content must comply with these terms.
5.2 Content Liability
We are not responsible for any User Content posted or shared through our Website or MyLearning services. You are solely responsible for your User Content and agree to indemnify us against any claims arising from it.
We do not monitor or endorse User Content and may, at our discretion, remove or restrict access to User Content that is unlawful, offensive, violates these terms, or infringes others’ rights.
No links, files, or content should appear on our website that could be considered libelous, obscene, criminal, or infringing third-party rights.
If any content is brought to our attention that breaches the conditions above, we will immediately terminate the affected account. Any illegal content that is brought to our attention on the MyLearning platform will be dealt with including legal action if appropriate.
5.3 How Long we Keep User Content
Following termination or deactivation of your account, or User Content, we keep your information in line with our Retention Schedule.
If you feel any content has been removed by us incorrectly you can contact us to query further at: digitallearning@sssc.uk.com
- Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, the SSSC and/or its licensors own the intellectual property rights for all material on MyLearning Services (“MyLearning IP”). All intellectual property rights are reserved. You may access this from MyLearning for your own personal use subjected to restrictions set in these terms and conditions. MyLearning IP does not include User Content.
For clarity, you must not:

7.1 We reserve the right to request that you remove all links or any particular link to our Website. You agree to immediately remove all links to our Website upon request.

- Removal of links from our website

- Use of the National Induction Feature (on the MyLearning App)
The National Induction feature of the MyLearning Service allows you to track induction modules you have completed on TURAS. We reserve the right to withdraw or suspend this feature at any time and for any reason, including (but not limited to): (i) challenges in supporting this service, or (ii) changes to the TURAS system that make this feature incompatible for use with the MyLearning platform.
- Use of MyLearning Badges (previously known as “Open Badges”)
11.1 Nature and Purpose of MyLearning Badges
MyLearning Badges are awarded as recognition of information and continuous learning. They are not qualifications or certifications. MyLearning Badges do not demonstrate that someone can perform specific tasks or duties, as no observed practice or in-person assessment takes place as part of the badge assessment process. You must not represent your badges as formal qualifications or certifications under any circumstances.
11.2 Badge award discretion
MyLearning Badges are offered and awarded purely at our discretion. We can choose not to award a badge or withdraw the invitation to apply for badges from any person at any time.
11.3 Badge display requirements
You must not display a MyLearning Badge awarded to you without including the link back to your award page. You must not alter our certificates to remove the link or QR code to your award page. MyLearning Badges are only valid when the link to your award page is included for verification by the person you show it to.
11.4 Badge revocation
Awarded MyLearning Badges may be revoked if you breach the conditions agreed upon during application, such as submitting plagiarised or AI-generated evidence. You may appeal a revoked badge after 12 months (or 6 months if you only have one revoked badge) by emailing digitallearning@sssc.uk.com
The decision to remove the revoked badge and allow you to reapply will be made at our discretion.
11.5 Continuous Practice Learning (CPL) disclaimer
Receiving a badge does not guarantee that you will pass your CPL, as CPL evaluates your learning comprehensively rather than based on individual components.
- Use of iFrames
You may not create iFrames around our webpages that alter in any way the visual presentation or appearance of our website, without our prior written permission.
- Service Limitations
13.1 Not a training provider
We are not a training provider. We offer learning materials for self-directed study or for use in group learning activities facilitated by employers or training providers. We do not provide one-to-one support or tuition support.
13.2 Support limitations
Apart from the reason given in the email notifying you of our decision on an MyLearning Badge application, we are unable to offer individual feedback by email, telephone, video conference or in person about unsuccessful applications for our MyLearning Badges. You should seek support from your employer or training provider if you are unsure where your evidence needs work.
13.3 Optional service
Everything on MyLearning Services purely optional and you are under no requirement to use them – even if you are registered with us. Employers or training providers who require individuals to use our services are expected to provide them with appropriate support. The SSSC is not responsible for providing such support.
- Service Withdrawal
We reserve the right to withdraw or suspend any and all of the MyLearning Services at any time. This includes features, functionality, or the entire platform, without prior notice or liability.
- Variation and Governing Law
14.1 These terms and your use of the MyLearning Service will be governed by and construed in accordance with Scots law.
14.2 We may revise, add, or remove any or all portions of these terms from time to time and the most current version will always be posted on our Website. Your continued use of and access to our Website and MyLearning Services will constitute your acceptance of such changes.
